She has a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Salamanca. She has worked as a curator at the National Roman Art Museum since 1986 being in charge of the Research Department. Her main lines are Roman Iconography, Architecture and Urban Planning.
From her career, it is worth mentioning her participation as curator or organiser in several exhibition projects from the collections of the National Roman Art Museum, as well as, in national and international temporary exhibitions
It is also worth mentioning her close links with the University taking part as an invited lecturer at Universities of París IV, Lisboa, Evora and University of South California teaching Masters and post-graduate courses in different Spanish universities: Sevilla, Córdoba, Santiago de Compostela, Murcia, Valladolid, Madrid.
As the person responsible for the Research Department of the National Roman Art Museum, she has directed and coordinated many National and International Research Projects and she has been in charge for the Research Programmes about the Roman Lusitania and she has co-published several specialised volumes such as the series Studia Lusitania with 9 published volumes in which several authors analyse different aspects of the Roman Lusitania. She has been in international research centres such as the Spanish School in Rome, the German Archaeological Institute and the French Society of Classical Archaeology in Paris. She took part of the team of the University Pablo Olavide of Sevilla in the excavations of Villa Adriana, under the direction of PhD. León Alonso between 2006 and 2008.
She has more than a dozen of specialised monographs, the volumes “El retrato privado en Augusta Emerita”, “Espectáculos en Augusta Emerita”, “Imagen y Memoria”, or “Forum Coloniae Augustae Emeritae”, among others. It is also worth mentioning the publication of about one hundred of articles in conference proceedings and specialised magazines, both national and international.
She is as Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of History, of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Sta. Isabel de Hungría of Sevilla and of the German Archaeological Institute. She belongs to several national and international Scientific Committees and she has been a scientific adviser and Project assessor of the Directorate-General for Culture of the EEC. She was the Councillor for Education and Culture of the Regional Government of Extremadura between 2011 and 2015.
